Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities • Work under the direction of H2GO’s Facilities Manager and work with a team of 4 operators • Perform a variety of operational, maintenance and laboratory duties to produce safe and sustainable public water supplies • Ensure compliance with all State and Federal drinking water standards and concentrate discharge permit regulations • Operate the RO water treatment plant and remote well sites; observe operations of water pumps, electric motors, and chemical feed machines; calibrate equipment • Operate computerized and/or manual pumps, motors, and other equipment to adjust supply volumes, change treatment processes, and/or make other necessary process adjustments • Collect samples and perform standard analyses and tests; keep precise daily, monthly, and annual records and interpret results to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and all operating permits • Troubleshoot and perform standard repairs and maintenance of plant equipment; may assist with more difficult or complex equipment repair or replacement • Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance and 3rd party service contracts • Read various charts, graphs, gauges, computer screens and meters; normalize RO data; compute from readings and record water volume pumped; adjust chemical feed based on analysis of water quality produced; monitor elevated and ground storage tank levels, and system demands• Receive and unload chemical deliveries to the plant; assure proper storage; fill, clean and replace tanks of chemicals and other tanks • Employ a working knowledge of treatment chemicals and their best practices and safe handling procedures and protocols, consistent with SDS • Prepare and file emails, reports, and letters • Inspect remote wells and perform preventive maintenance and repairs to well pump equipment and controls • Perform other duties as required, including shared operation of H2GO’s extended aeration wastewater treatment plant Recruitment and Selection Guidelines • North Carolina Grade A-Well Certified Operator or ability to obtain and maintain if an out-of-state certification is equivalent to those required by the rules of the NC Water Treatment Facility Operators Board of Certification • Working knowledge of VTScada and Microsoft Suite applications • Knowledge of NC State laws regulating water purification, wastewater treatment, and the standard procedures necessary to meet operating permits • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of equipment instruments and control devices used in water treatment, and to a lesser extent wastewater treatment • Knowledge of the standard tests and equipment used in required laboratory analysis of water, and to a lesser extent wastewater • Working knowledge of the use of computers • Ability to collect, analyze, and normalize RO data • Ability to operate a manual or a computerized plant; ability to solve routine technical or operational problems • Ability to perform and conduct standard laboratory tests • Ability to understand and interpret detailed and procedural oral and written instructions • Ability to accurately prepare detailed records and reports • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and superiors; exceptional interpersonal skills are a must • Ability to work safely individually • Ability to take On-Call shifts when needed and be available for emergency operations; ability to work rotating shifts. • Must be willing and have a desire to share responsibilities to operate the Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant and H2GO’s existing extended aeration wastewater treatment plantPhysical Requirements • Must be able to perform the basic physical life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing • Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force • Must possess visual acuity necessary to read charts, gauges, and dials, to inspect small moving parts, and to complete and read a variety of records and reports
Experience Required:
• 3-5 year progressive operating experience with membrane water treatment facilities and groundwater wells • Graduation from high school supplemented by chemistry, biology, or mechanical maintenance course work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience • Ability to obtain and maintain distribution, collections, cross-connection, and biological wastewater treatment certifications • Possession of valid North Carolina driver's license
